Teaching Philosophy
As an art educator, I believe the classroom should be a space where students feel safe being themselves and expressing who they are through their artwork. Art is one of the few subjects where students are able to communicate emotions, experiences, interests, and ideas in ways that words sometimes cannot, and I think that individuality should be encouraged rather than limited. Every student comes into the classroom with different backgrounds, personalities, and creative voices, and I want my classroom to be a place where those differences are respected and valued.
At the same time, I believe self-expression should exist alongside kindness, respect, and responsibility. Students should feel free to explore their creativity while also learning how to respect themselves, their classmates, and the environment around them. I want to encourage open-mindedness, constructive feedback, and a classroom culture where students support one another instead of tearing each other down.
I also believe art education should help students build confidence, problem-solving skills, and emotional growth in addition to artistic skill. Not every student will become a professional artist, but every student deserves the opportunity to create, experiment, and feel proud of something they made with their own hands. My goal as a teacher is to help students grow creatively while making sure they feel seen, encouraged, and capable both inside and outside of the classroom.
